Carolyn Steel is an architect who got interested in what would happen if she described cities through food. The work and the insights that came out of asking this question throws light on the processes underlying the growth of cities as well as the increasing distance between city dwellers and nature. Defining cities as ‘Sitopias’, places of food, she suggests that we begin to use food as a conceptual tool to shape the world and our lives differently.
